COMMODORE 64 SID MUSIC BY VIBRANTS
WORKTUNES BY DRAX IN JCH'S NEWPLAYER 1991
UPDATED 13 MAY 1998 BY THOMAS MOGENSEN AND JENS-CHRISTIAN HUUS

This package should contain 124 SID worktunes made in 1991 by DRAX in the
NewPlayer by Jens-Christian Huus (JCH) - more precisely tunes made in player
v17.Q0 to v20.G3. Worktunes are tunes which are not packed, which means that
it is in fact possible to load them into the JCH editor if you strip the PSID
header first. The JCH editor can be downloaded from our homepage and then
run on a real Commodore 64 (or a C64 emulator for that matter).

Some tunes can be found among these worktunes which also exists in the
packages containing the released (packed) tunes. This was done on purpose,
so that it is possible to look at the tune in the JCH editor. Also, some
worktune duplicates actually differs slightly from the packed version.

Worktunes means "unfinished". Unfortunately, this also means that many of the
tunes wraps in a very awkward manner, bringing the voices out of sync. This
is because the NewPlayer system can wrap voices independantly of each other.
But, as said, worktunes are unfinished tunes - so it is an inconvenience you
will have to live with. One other thing which you will notice quite fast is
that many of the tunes are very short. We have tried to iron out tunes which
were too short (less than five seconds), but since the collections are so
enormeous, we cannot guarantee that you won't find other tunes which are also
ridiculously short.

As you will probably notice, many of DRAX's worktunes are conversions of
something, either from real music or from other C64 tunes. We have tried to
be fair to the originals by stating when it is in fact a conversion. Whenever
we have been able to pinpoint the original composer, we put his name inside
parenthesis in the name field. However, you can never trust that the entire
song is a conversion all the way. DRAX always had a "bad habit" of extending
the later parts of a song with his very own remix or additions.

You may wonder why many of the filenames have so awkward names. The reason
for this is very simple - whenever DRAX had to save his work, he often just
slammed the keyboard, producing all sorts of weird filenames. We thought
about giving them proper names, but decided to keep these strange names so
that future updates will be easier to apply.

Tunes which bears the name "24th Amaranth Grand Prix" are worktunes which
DRAX made for a racing game similar to Outrun, only here you were riding a
motorcycle instead. DRAX was clearly inspired by the fast tunes found in
the C64 version of Outrun, arranged by Jeroen Tel. Still, the tunes DRAX
composed for "24th..." were of an extraordinary quality. Unfortunately,
the game was never finished.

We know there are a lot more than this. If we find more of his tunes in our
vast archives, you may expect an update some time in the future.

Want more? Then pay a visit to our homepage, where you can download a lot
more of DRAX's Commodore 64 music - and, of course, you will be able to
download all our FastTracker II music too.

To play the music you need a SID emulator called SidPlay. This can be
downloaded from http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/5147/

All the music is copyright (C) 1998 Thomas Mogensen, Vibrants.
