Welcome to Defacto Issue 8, with NO SVGA graphics, NO digital
sound, NO interactive point and click interface, infact if you
didn't guess by now this is the OLD defacto (1.31). Damn shame
but the coding will not be ready for another 3 or 4 weeks. So
we are stuck with this for a few more issues.

If you have for some wierd reason you have read the credits
before you have read the introduction you may have noticed a
new organiser for the postition of Art/Coder Organiser. We
this person, Tyger is really NetRunner with a change of nick.

Nothing much else to say in this issue except enjoy your the
       new sections we have added.

dear defacto,

i recently read an article published in defacto issue #7. it talked about
making free calls by using at&t's 800 number and a credit card. depending on
you ess (electronic switching system) at&t and your local
operators will most likely have a service called ani (automatic number
identification). ani will automatically display and record the number you
are calling from, unless you divert your call. one way to divert your phone
call is to have your local operator dial the 800 number for you. this will
not work in all area codes depending on your swtiching system is. if you
have an advanced ess (ex: 407), this process will not work. at&t will still
get the phone number you are calling from. so, some other ways to divert
your number are beige boxing, call fowarding, pbxing, etc. check if your
number is diverted by talking to the operator. once it is, you can make the
ld call with the credit card. if not, at&t has your phone number and you
will probally either be asked to pay for the charges or persecuted. sorry to
inform you of your mistake, but something like that could destroy the scene
and my fellow warez kiddiez.

Dear Reader,

Ok I goofed on the risks, etc. My article was only to provide people
with general info on how to do it. You can still use 1-800-call-att from
payphones, thats what i use it for. I never have to worry about finding
20 cents to make a phone call. Of course calling from your house has risks.
All 800 #s have caller id, and especially every ATT # you call. When you
call AT&T Worldnet, your whole information pops up on the screen. Name,
address, phone, CC info. So my advice? Use 800callatt at pay phones, and
*once* in a while at home. Many people still courier with CCs and Calling
Cards, so go figure =)

Hello, I think you should have a 'message section' in defacto (like in the old
Imphobia magz...) which readers can send messages to... maybe.. :)

the Internet. Because of it we lost 6 contracts.
                This happened 2 years ago.

in touch with us and said an anonymous person told
him he had been from our firm. We asked him to sign
up the contract without us. Also we asked system
administrators of our daughter firm to check out
our computers and they found a couple of "holes". And
other contracts were signed up without our presense
because we were too late and someone took all our
information about our buyers and sellers via e-mail.
In that time there wasn't any software that allowed to
                nuke e-mail after reading.

Unknown : Because we didn't sign those 6 contracts we ended up

Defacto : After this incident you descided to learn about hacking.
What were your reasons for taking up this 'hobby'?

Unknown : In the beginning I just wanted revenge and started
studing hacking and even tried to hack other computers
up. A couple of times I got cought and my accounts got
closed. Then I started studing programming more
careful and the wish of revenge passed away. I just
realised that those guys who hacked our system were
working for money and were professionals. And all I
could do was just bow my head in respect. Almost no one
were able to hack as good as those people.

Defacto : Why was it so hard to hack your own systems?

checked it regulary. That was first and the last time it
                was hacked.

     Unknown : No.

Defacto : And what would you do if someone ever offered you money
                to hack?

Unknown : No I wouldn't do that. It is possible to make money
without the high risk hacking by just using their
knowledge and experience. For instance, my business.

Defacto : As far as I know, hacking means big money - average
price for professionals can be $50,000 USD. Doesn't
that amount of money temp you? $50,000 for a night's
work seems too good to be true.

Unknown : Such a night would cost me several years in jail and
I would miss my best years in life. Money is an
unstable wish, today I have it, tomorrow I don't...
It's just too risky, even for $50,000.

Okay, for example, having my contracts I can do
business with my clients about 10 times a year. I
get 50,000-200,000 from every contract. And it takes
one or two weeks to sign up a contract without risk.
In my opinion that's good enough for me.

Defacto : Yeah, I agree. Do you call yourself are a "peaceful"
                hacker?

Unknown : Of course! I can hack a system (if I am lucky) for a
friend in extreme situations. And of course I like to
browes through the systems I hack. But if I hack a
system, I won't do anything bad in there. I mean I
won't steal any information, though I am able to.
Sometimes I will create accounts for my friends though.
But usually admins notice pretty soon and correct it.

Defacto : Hmmm, don't you dig the trash? I mean Internet traffic.

     Unknown : No.

Defacto : Does this mean you're not interested in FBI and
governement systems? Don't you ever get curious and
take a quick look at them?

Unknown : No way! It's too dangerous for me. I don't wanna waste
                my time in jail.

Defacto : Do you think you could get caught even through you
                use 4-8 hosts?

Unknown : I need to know how "they" work and how "they" search for
me. And also they use programs like "doorkey" that
crack 200 accounts in 15 minutes. But we use slower
                programs.

Defacto : You wanna say the best hackers work for FBI, SPA, CIA?

Unknown : Not everyone. There are many hackers who work for
themselves or for money and American special services
search for them. They are not interested in such
hackers, as I am. Of course the American Goverment has
the best professionals who are very experienced and
can catch a hacker very easily. First off, they search
for people who try to crack security objects like B1-B3
                and A1-A3.

     Defacto : What are B1-B3 and A1-A3?

Unknown : B1 is a first security level. It contains secret and top
secret information. B2 is a second security level. It's
nessessery to secure every single object individually
when standard programs and configurations change. B3
is an isolation of all security objects based on
hardware. Protection based on memory management
secures domain against modifications of security model.
For example, SCOMP System from Honeywell is a system
as I described it. (A1), A2 and A3 can be added in the
                objects of higher level.

Defacto : Do you think a qualified hacker can crack any system?

Unknown : No. I mean they could do it if they are lucky enough
but they can get caught easily. An example is a hacker
from Russia who hacked CityBank and stole a large
ammount of money. He didn't get caught the first time
but when he attemped a second time the security system
were ready and they caught him.

Defacto : Hi Liquid, I am DiZZiDeNT from DeFacto, mind answering a
               few questions ?

     Liquid : Nope..

Defacto : Okay.. First can you tell our readers who you are, and
what groups you are in ?

Liquid : Ok.. I am LiquiD and I am currently working with Digital
Traders.. as a courier.. Motiv8.. also as a courier..
Lightning.. again as a courier.. and Dawn as the Courier-
               Coordinator.. (almost) =P

Defacto : Wow.. lotsa courier groups.. no problems with it ?

Liquid : Not really.. I had a experiance with that sort of thing..
A little while back I was looking into RtS.. ORD had
excepted me if I would quit motiv8. But I couldn't just
leave.. I had been with m8 for a while.. so I declined..
I have been with Digital for 2 weeks now.. and Frost has
asked me to leave m8 also.. I haven't made my decision
yet.. because it is a hard one.. But the reason why I have
helped each group out is that I do different jobs for
each.. Like for m8 I IRC offer 0day.. for DGT I move 0day
to their ftps. and for dawn and lightning.. they are
basically whatever needs to be done.

Defacto : About IRC Offers.. what channels do you think are the
               best, and why ?

Liquid : Well.. #Exceed sure has alot of ppl.. and its mostly just
a leech old shit channel.. nothing really new passes
through it.. #m8leech is the best I considor.. it ALWAYS
will have new stuff.. and The @'s don't ignore you and
think there hard.. we will help the ppl in channel at all
times.. unless we are away.. #united isn't good at all..
too many groups.. Not enuf ppl know what they are doing..
THC is the only exception.. THC should leave that lame
channel.. from what I hear.. its even worse then I have
described.. so #1 M8LEECH #2 EXCEED the rest isn't worth
               it!

Defacto : If you offer, your shell will be lagged, and much of slow
dcc's are taken, so you have to wait a really long time
if you offer big releases. and you dont get any credits
out of it.. What is the fun part ?

Liquid : Well.. helping ppl out .. and getting recognition.. Plus
this is how you learn.. without offers.. we would all be
               lost.. =)

Defacto : And i think it is great publicity if you just started a
               new group..

Liquid : Oh.. most Definately.. That is how you get known!

Defacto : About the safety, if you offer in a channel you are
easy to trace, is it dangerous according to you ?

Liquid : Well.. everything is Dangerous in the Scene.. but this
is probably a little bit more.. sometimes you gotta
               take a chance though.. =)

Defacto : Yup, I agree, if you cant stand the heat.. get out of the
kitchen :) How about Dawn, can you tell me more about
               that group ?

Liquid : Well.. Dawn is a Utils releasing group.. Founded by
J_Dredd.. headed by |000| dARKRAGe. Not to forget a few
great suppliers.. when we first came out.. we released
12 releases in 14 days.. and beat PWA and DOD in the
reviews section of Rcn-15 by at least 3 points.. we are
in kind of a slump but we are just getting out of it..
               Expect to see us around!

Defacto : Much steady suppliers in Dawn ?

Liquid : Yes.. alot.. but they just around as much as they need to
be. but when they try.. they kick ass!

Defacto : Lets hope so, not many good and steady release groups
               around now..

Liquid : Except for RAZOR CD 1911, Hybrid, NPM, PSG and DOD, PWA,
               etc.. =)

Defacto : Yeah, they allways rock.. What is happening with Motiv8,
I mean, what is your point of view ?

Liquid : Well.. Motiv8 has always kicked ass.. we had a little
trouble when IGOR and Davan left.. but since the return
of IGOR and the Senior Promote of DiZZiDeNT we are Back
on Track.. We picked up Druggy, the president of Sinful
Traders, and promoted him to council.. which I though was
a BIG mistake.. I was right and Druggy was kick in less
then a week.. but we have Good ppl, like [mentAt].. a
really good member.. puts it all together..

Defacto : So you think motiv8 will soon be back on track ?

Liquid : Well.. like I said earlier.. I sure as hell hope so.. but
I might not be a part of it.. I like DiGital and Motiv8

Defacto : Did DiGital ask you to join, or did you apply for it ?

Defacto : Welcome Druggy .. Can you tell the readers who you are
and what are your current affils. ?

Druggy : Well, I am your common IRC Junkie, I am founder of The
Cartel, and my only affil right now is Stoned..

Defacto : Only a week ago you where president of a up and coming
courier group called Sin Couriers. Why did you decide to
leave and attemped to kill the group?

Druggy : I did not attempt to kill anything, I left it in control
of Wildd. And the main reason I did leave, is because,
well, all of the responsibilites were pushed on me, and
the seniors/delegation didn't help any.. so instead of
               complaining.. I just left....

Defacto : In an interview Entropy did with Wildd he claims you
where sucking up to 'higher' people to try and join a
more famous group. This seems pretty true considering
straight after you left you joined Motiv8 and became a
               senior for that group.

Druggy : Yes, this is true also.. Would not you? I mean, damn, if
you had alot of work to do in one group, and was offered
a high position in a more well known group, where
responsibilites were more dispersed, wouldn't you go?!

Defacto : No .. I believe in LOYALTY. I think you should build up
the group you have started. Not just bail ship. Well
anyway soon after you joined Motiv8 and became a senior
you were kicked with some people shouting out 'NARC' ..
Can you tell us your views on why you where kicked.

Druggy : <Sigh> Here we go. A week before I joined Motiv8, two of
their siteops joined us, Pseudo/Storm. Now, since I HAD
TO DO ALL THE WORK in the group, and the members were
always bugging ME, instead of the FTP Co-ordinator for
the sites, I just decided to send out a newsletter every
day or so. I done this ever since I started Sin. When I
joined Motiv8 everything was cool. But then the next day,
I came on and people were telling me about a list.
Somehow, a root in Canada got a hold of the site list, and
decided to NARC on the siteops.. including a few of my
Sin sites. So everyone called me, a) either a narc, or
               b) a stupid fuck who shouldn't have given out a list.
I know I am the source of the error, but I had no other
efficient way of distributing these sites.. And it is
funny, this JUST happened when I left to go to Motiv8.
*As the last newsletter I sent out was a week old.
Therefore, despite what Wildd says, there has to be
either a) a narc in sin, or b) a fucking asshole who just
wanted to get me back for leaving sin...

Defacto : So do you accept responsibility for your actions. Do
you feel that you got what you deserved?

Druggy : Yes, I don't deserve to be in M8, I fucked up, and in
order, fucked M8 up, and everyone in M8 hates my guts
now.. So, I think what they decided is right, and I
               respect that.

Defacto : So tell us now about your new venture, Cartel.

Druggy : Well... It seems M8 kicked out everyone who came with me
also, so I just started a new group.. Mostly couriering,
but we also have one ex-ata supplier...

Defacto : What are your goals or targets for this group ?

Druggy : Well, to remain dedicated, and have responsibilities
dispersed, and have dedicated couriers, who keep their
ratios even. So far it looks very promising...

Defacto : If you where offered a job in Amnesia, Digital, Empire,
or what-ever would you drop Cartel and take the offer?

Druggy : You're funny you know that.

Druggy : No! I might join, but I would not drop. You don't
understand what was happening in SiN..

Defacto : Ok thanks for your time ... Any final comments before we

Wildd : Well, I am the president for Sinful Traders, and I quit
all other groups I was in.

               leader and as a member?

Wildd : Hmm. I started out in PoC and shortly after, it split up,
so I went to Violation. I was there as a FTP Coord, and
worked my way up to VP before Druggy left for a new group,
which became Sin. At that time, I left with him. At Sin,
I started as a member on the Senior Council.

Defacto : Recently Druggy left over a dispute I imagine to become
Motiv8 council. Can you tell us exactly in your words
what happened to transpire this situation?

members, 'The Man Who Got Things Done', and that caught
a lot of people's eyes. After a while, he made friends
with people in Motiv8. He had talked about merging Sin
into Motiv8 loosely, and we all agreed not to. A few
days later, I got a message from him that he was
disbanning Sin and leaving for Motiv8, which surprised
me... I am not sure why he left. Only he knows that...
it could be for power, it could just be that he got sick
               of where he was.

Defacto : Before he left Sin, you guys had acquired many sites. A
group that seemed to be on such an uprise losing its
main coordinator. A man, in your members words, who did
               everything. Why did he leave?

Wildd : He has always been whacked off of course when people
didn't do what he wanted. If he asked someone to upload
a gig one night, and they upped 900 meg, he would get
really stressed out. He took too much personal values in
the group... like it was 'his' creation... which it was.

Defacto : In your view would you say that druggy had become
possessive over what he called *HIS* group in not working
as a team? Created more or less a god complex?

Wildd : Somewhat... he was very protective and concerned with it,
but at the same time, he was getting distracted from Sin
with all the attention that he was drawing... he spent a
lot of time 'sucking up' to high up people.

Defacto : How do you feel his leaving the group will affect you?
Have you made any new plans or started to reorganize?

Wildd : When I took over as president, I immediately brought in
two of my old and trusted friends, Crash and Phiber
(Thanks guys. you helped a lot!) and we planned the
reconstruction of Sin. We added many members, promoted
some, kicked some... basically redesigned Sin... but at
the same time, we had the issue: Most of our sites went
with Druggy. So it took a lot of work to get places for
people to upload to, but I'm proud to say our couriers
have filled 4 harddrives to date.

Defacto : I do Understand how that goes. Does SiN plan on moving
into the irc couriering aspect or mainly FTP? I know that
a lot of groups have been moving into IRC, but still the
statement arises that people think IRC killed Fate. What
do you think of that Issue?

Wildd : The plans are for us to move into the IRC scene, but only
partially. We added an IRC division of a few people.
Nothing like Fate... We are trying to keep it under
control... We also added a BBS division and we still
               plan to do FTP couriering.

Defacto : Okay Wildd well thank you for your time. Is there
anything else that you would like to add?

Wildd : Yes. First, I would like to say good luck to Druggy.
Second, I want to thank all the SiN couriers that stuck
with us while we regrouped. They are doing a HELL of a
               job.

Defacto : Recently Fate Decided to change the name of the well
known and EXTREMLY popular #Fatefiles to something new
and something that did not even hint Fate in the name.
Can you tell us some of the reasons behind this change?

     Anti-D : There are 2 reasons:
                1) fATE needed to disassociate itself with it's humongus
offer channel's name. We had everyone employed at
the SPA in the channel just laughing it up and
kicking our couriers. Sending emails to their root's
and so on. Lots of attention we didn't need.
                2) It was fun, it was neat, but it was time we released
it from our control. We were spending way too much
time constantly trying to regain control of #fatefiles
from lame "irc takeover groups" that made #ff their
#1 target. A sort of breaking into fort knox on irc.
So it is now run by another group, we still have some
policy decisions and bot access though. It's a huge
                   stress release

Defacto : People have rumored and gossiped about the different
reasons that Fate has received such a bad name. The
main reason that people associate this with is Fatefiles
and Fates dedication to IRC couriering. Something that a
lot of people think is a waste of time. How do you
               comment on that?

Anti-D : hmm, I would hardly say we have a "dedication" to irc
couriering. We've always once on the net had our sites
at the core. Infact we did little if any irc courier at
first. If of our couriers curry on irc, it was by their
own choice. We don't really care either way about it as
long as it doesn't interfere with their ftp assignments.
As for our bad name, people just do it because they get
into a habit. There are a lot of elitists in the scene.
I don't know why people rag on us, and I don't really
care. I, nor does the rest of my crew need to hear from
anyone that our group sucks. We are very happy, and we
know we are doing great and getting better.

Defacto : So your saying #ff wasn't even a necessity of fate
couriers, it was something that fate couriers did on
               their own ambition?

Anti-D : Well, not exactly. #ff was started and operated by us,
officially, from the council, not by the couriers, but it
was not part of our jobs list. It was sort of a side thing
and since we were the first to do it, it became huge.
Eventually it manifested into a monster, as you know if
               you join the chan :)

Defacto : Recently (2-3) months or so ago I guess.. Mikeysoft
Joined Fate as a Senior. Can you tell us about the
groups decision to invite him in and what exactly
happened in the SHORT period of time he was with the
               group.

Anti-D : We invited him in because he was qualified and had
specifically lended us a hand in a very trying time for
the group. Mikey is, no doubt, incredibly smart and
seasoned for the scene, and in business in general.
Mikey actually did not do a whole lot. He was coined
Public Relations Manager, but with his various IRC
adventures and millions of other jobs he was doing, he
didn't have much time for fATE, which left him just
hanging out a lot, but that was ok. He was there when we
needed him, and when he came he always brought a lot to
               the table.

Defacto : So why was he allowed membership in fate if he didn't do
a lot? Was it because fate was insuring more channel
security with him being an irc operator?

Anti-D : Not at all. Mikey had always helped us with #ff a good bit
before he was in the group, and he was always willing to
help. His allowance into the group was not relevant to
               his o-lines. Infact he has saved #ff2 (I'll call it :) )
a couple times since out of fATE. He was allowed
membership because of experience, contacts, maturity,
wit, and common sense. Things found very rare on the net
and in the scene in general. I leap at the chance to
find a senior member with those qualities. Besides, like
I said, Mikey was there when needed for the most part, we
just sorta let it slide. Mikey was definitely a unique
situation though. I don't want to give the impression
that our seniors are allowed to slack because it is quite
               the opposite.

Defacto : Fate is such a large group but really has not made a name
for Itself on some of the bigger sites such as LA, BBX,
CRC and some others. Is Fate not trying to become the
best or are you as some people say "A Courierngr group
               for the masses"?

Anti-D : Neither. I don't define the best by other peoples sites.
We just started getting some presence on LA, BBX and CRC,
btw- BBX, started as a fATE site and well, that's a whole
other story. Anyway our sites are packed and fast. Our
main site is comparable to CRC or LA. Maybe we may miss
a release by 5-20 mins, what group doesn't. All groups
get some things faster as you know, mostly dependent on
their "official releasers". We are the best group for
everyone in our group and always will be. fATE is a tight
crowd and we've come a long long way, we haven't lived so
long and watched others come and go by luck, without
getting too "disneyish" there is a bit of a magic to fATE,
a difference between it and other groups in the scene.
That's what we pride ourselves on more then presence on
               LA.

Defacto : Fate, to me, does not seem to be wanting to improve its
image. A groups moral presence in itself, I agree, is a
good thing to have higher than that of what other people
think of you. But I have noticed almost anytime somebody
from Fate enters a channel and starts talking about Fate
they are blasted almost immediately for even mentioning
the name. This is something to me that would atleast start
to nerve me a bit. Do you feel that this is something that
maybe the Seniors in fate should be working on improving
(By getting better on LA, BBX, etc.) to improve your
image to help your couriers out there in irc/Judgment.
If not for their respect that they deserve?

Anti-D : Well, not exactly, if you've been in the scene, you know
that the majority of ppl in it are, well, childish.
Anybody who says that fATE is lame is saying because
they don't know us, because I've been in a lot of groups:
TDU-JAM, RiSC for a short while, DoD, quite a few years.
I know what lame is, and know what not if you call fATE
lame, then you, yourself are a liar, because you don't
know anything about fATE and I know this, and the seniors
know this, but yes, it is very disheartening when a new
courier might have to deal with this. It would be nice to
be on more sites of the "big l33t sites", but we are just
concerned about it fATE is on a different level (not
higher or lower) but a different idea I assure you.
Anyone on a fATE site has all the warez damn near as fast
as LA or CRC or whatever. That's what matters.

Defacto : Some other groups in the past have changed their name as
a move to "start with a clean slate," has fate considered
               this to escape its reputation?

Anti-D : Yes; And we have unanimously decide not to. We don't need
to cower behind a new name. I have never been more proud
in my life period, and I know many of the council /
seniors / members feel the same. I wouldn't change the
name if there was guarantee to be #1 by a landslide.
Groups that are willing to change their name just to be
popular with the other kids on the playground are the
same groups that come and go. fATE/RiSC remain.

Defacto : Okay well thank you for your time. Is there anything else
you would like to say before we end?

Anti-D : I see a LOT of new groups talk about in there nfo's,
"If you want maturity and a solid professional group
with no fooling around come to <insert group here>" all
the time, and they talk about how they are so experienced
and blah blah, and you find out it's a hyper 12 year old
running the show screwing up the whole ordeal now,
without sounds like a elitist, because I despise them.
Their ripping fATE off. We made professional, we made
like a business, we screened for age and only brought
in mature members. fATE is the group that has the unique
qualities of maturity, loyalty, experience, good
infrastructure, and vision for the future not to say that
other groups do not, but don't just copy our damn nfo
speeches and lie. I don't expect many to understand what
I'm saying it's a personal pet peeve and it just pisses
me off. so there. blah. :)

in, and what positions you hold in those groups.

Violator : Well im in many groups. I run DMN, im in scum (been in
scum since the start), im in STN (new upcomming group I
hope!), Empire (??)).. hehe.. I try to stay out of too
               many groups..

Defacto : Why do you restrict yourself to only a few groups?

Violator : I dont get to much into that "im leeter then you
bullshit", im in this for one reason, to give away
free stuff ;> Anyone that has more then 5 affils, is
a netfag. Cant stand that shit.

Defacto : Okay, tell our readers about your life on scene, maybe a
               short history of yourself?

Violator : Ok, well I started off way back when, I joined a Amiga
group. Went from there and found my self in Fairlight.
Then to Risc & Razor (Different handle) :> and then to
scum. After thats its been boring! I mainly supply, but
I occisionally trade, and stuff like that ;>

Defacto : Why did you quit from Razor/Risc ?

Violator : I quit becuase I had no time for warez a year or so
ago.. I quit the same time Mirage went down, and many
many bbs's were getting busted.. It just seemed
everything was dying.. so I dropped out for a bit and
concentrated on my school (college) :>

Defacto : Okay, so why haven't you rejoined Razor or Risc, they
               are excellent groups.

Violator : Yes, they are very nice.. but I wanted to start over.
To try somthing else out.. not be called at 9pm to go
get a game to courier to Mirage, or Agents of Fortune..
Was just getting to much.. I tried H/P/V for a while,
               but that got boring also..

Defacto : After this break, you decided to start your own group
               Demolition?

Violator : No ;>, actually its a REAL LONG STORY. Ill make it
simple, round the time I was supplying for scum, I was
invite to a group called MTY (Ran by CP).. well I was in
that group for a while, and then CP left the face of the
earth.. So we all revolted and started a group called
"FTA" (which me and Ghost Rider ran) for a LONG TIME..
then after we got tired of that, we merged with VND to
form DMN.. which we are now.

Defacto : How old is Demolition?

Violator : DMN has been alive for around 1+ years.. FTA another 9+
months on top of that..Its been alive mainly because of
myself and a few people in the group. I am the only
supplier and dedicated people are doing the rest.

Defacto : I mainly heard about Demoltion 4/5 months ago ealy good
group, was, `coz i dont see much releases by u pplz,
               wass wrong now?

Violator : Well, mainly I dont have time to rip/crack/package/supply
all the releases, and Im in to many groups supplying
them stuff ;>, Its not because of the members in the
group, its becuase of me and not having all day to do
warez, to me Money and my Business comes first.

Defacto : Is Demoltion dying ?

Violator : No, we have been in worst situations before, but I feel
as time moves on, we will eventually move on.. I myself
will never leave it (unless i feel that the group is
ready to move on).. to many move on's in that sentence '>
hehe, well I see us going on for another couple months..
and now that I am willing to supply games again, I see
               a different road ahead.

Defacto : Don't you think it's bad for a group to only be supported
               by only one supplier ?

Violator : Hehe, look at TDU-JAM!. or some of the other groups out
there, I have personally supplied DMN every DMN-*.zip
release (well a couple has come from members, but 95% is
mine) thats a LOT for one person to do... and when that
               1) person cracks, rips, supplies and packages his own
releases it makes it tougher ;>

Defacto : But what happens if you don't have access to the internet
for a period of time, wouldn't that serverly hurt the
group ? At least in the short term ?

Violator : Hehehe.. well You do have a good point, it has'nt
happened yet. So lets hope it dosent happen ;>

Defacto : How did you come up with Demolition's name? And why do
you supply for two utils/apps groups? Are there any
               conflict of interests?

Violator : hehe, well I never chose the name DMN, that was left to
the other leaders (QN and Headhunter) I just went along
for the ride, and said ok thats kewl .. but for the
conflict of intrest no, I have respect for both groups..
I know where my place is in both groups, and it stays
that way. There have maybe been a few times, maybe when
I was starting over again.. but I like being a provider
of goodies, and will always do so, unless god forbid
somthing happens, like getting married or somthing ">

Defacto : I know many people in the scene who are older then your
avaerge teenager and they think there is no problems
with themselves sometimes being twice as old other
members. They trade wares and are leaders in release
groups etc. Do you think the age of a person effects
who/how they are in the scene?

Violator : To me age has no meaning to warez.. look at Cybernetic
               tiger(45!), LeodLion (old) ;> Liquidater (40'ish.. he'll
kill me!).. No, to me age and warez are ok. The older
you get, more layed back you get.

Defacto : Do you make any money from being in the warez scene?

Violator : HELL NO, warez is just that warez "By defination =
               Giving away free software"

Defacto : Can you tell us your definition of pirating?

Violator : Pirating .. Well to me, giving away what dos'nt belong
to you. Thats what it means to me. Put aside all the
group bullshit, and that what it boils down to. Giving
               away something for nothing.

Defacto : Okay, thanks for interview, anyword for Defacto maybe?

Violator : Yeah, more issues.. and can I spew out some quick greets?

Defacto : Sure, go for it.

Violator : Zpat (where are you man!???) - Tifer (Buddy!!) -
Liquidater (Titty bar!) - Baked Potato (next time we
               will win in reno!).

Defacto : Welcome sC^, tell the readers who you are and what
              affils you currently hold?

SC : Well, I am Scorpion, I am president in Rise To Power.

Defacto : Normally it's Defacto's policy not to interview new
groups, the main reasons being are:
               a) They die after a few weeks.
               b) The merge into some other group.
               c) We never see anything good from them.

But R2P has only been around for 2 weeks and you have
already released a much long awaited release Grand Prix
2 before the other main groups such as RazorCD, Prestige,
etc. Will you continue this quality or will you guys just
fade away into a distant memory?

SC : No, we plan to stick it out.. We have a great amount of
suppliers that can supply a great amount of quality.
Occationally we will have a slip up and fade away for
awhile. But we will come screaming back with another
              release..

Defacto : Are you guys a dedicated games group or a mixed group
              (utils/apps/games)?

SC : Well, Since we know that most Games/Apps/Utils groups
are lame.. We are deciding what we should stick to..
              Most probably Utils/Apps...

Defacto : So this release of Grand Prix 2 was just a one off fluke?

SC : Nod, We had the offer from a supplier (sadd). And we
took it. But.. Now it seems to of back fired on us..
Dont forget.. We have released such Utils and Apps as
(Quick Site), (Print Screen v2) (Rage Against the Machine
SS) (Virus Net) and a lot more.

Defacto : Did your group pay sadd or offer him a gift for the
              release?

SC : No. He is a supplier for Prestige, he wanted to get us on
the ball a little more, So he offered us the release.
              And we took it.

Defacto : Ahhh. Well like you say it has kind of back fired now :)
Do you know what Prestige thinks about one of their
suppliers offering a release like GP2 to a small, new,
              unknown util group?

SC : I am sure that they do not like it. But, It is not our
fault.. It is the suppliers for offering it to us..

Defacto : Okay, what about these rumours of GP2 not working or being
bugged. Are there any truths to these, and if so will you
be releasing a patch for it ?

SC : No, GP2 is a working game, There is a crack for it in
disk 1.. I myself have played it.. And have liked it..

Defacto : Okay thanks for you time, any final comments/shouts/etc
              before we go ?

SC : Yeah.. I am tired of seeing people coming into channels
and complaining. All they do is leech-leech-leech. There
is no skill in leeching. But releasing is a very hard,
complicated. Computers are not our lives. Some of us
have jobs and even families to contend with. But we are
not here to answer all of your problems. But we are here
              to have fun.

Defacto : Well you do find that most of those people who just leech,
leech and then complain that the release is not working
because they are running Windows 95 with 8megs of RAM
when the info says 16megs. Are young immature teenagers
or people who act like they are who don't give a crap
about anyone but themselves and don't understand how
much effort it takes to release and run a group.

Defacto : Tell our reader who you are, what groups you are currently
in and your positions in these groups?

Pest : Well my name is Pest and i am a supplier for Razor 1911

Defacto : Would you call yourself a 'main supplier'? Haven't you
supplied at least 6 to 8 releases by Razor of late?

Pest : Well yes I have supplied quite a few of the last games
that razor has put out, but I am not their main supplier.

Defacto : How is Razor's position currently going? Don't just say
it's the best group, as usual. Tell us something more
              interesting.

Pest : Well Razor is in a pretty good postition, Though we are
experiencing more competition than we did in January to
April. But Razor is fine and releasing the top games as
              usual.

Defacto : What you mean when you say 'top games'?

Pest : Well games like Panzer General are good quality titles,
also we should be getting some nice titles this month.

Defacto : These new titles .. can you tell us anything about them?

Pest : I can say with confidence Razor should release Grand
Prix 2 (Read interview with sC^ to read about how R2P
beat everyone to GP2 - Editor)

Defacto : I want to ask you about your conflict with Napalm. In
their time they released a lot of good games, like
Descent II, Witchhaven II, etc. But you dont give them any
              respect, what the problem here?

Pest : When lamers like TSA tell me that Razor sucks and Napalm
is this massive group of releasing power I have to laugh.

2nd NPM releases are banned and nuked all over the
                    place.

Then he says NPM always releases working games, and then
I have to die laughing at his moronic logic, I can
remember Descent 2, Earthseige 2, Judge Dread,
NBA Live 96. all these games were fucked up on, there is
still more but am sure we all know about them ...ie.
              Battle Arena Toshinden.

Defacto : Do you think Napalm is going downhill?

Pest : Well once a group hasn't released in over 1 month it
usually is assumed they are going downhill, espcially
when they lose on AcLAME games, the comapany where they
              have an insider!

Defacto : How many years have you been on scene? Can you tell our
readers how you originally joined razor and for what
              reasons?

Pest : Well I have been on the scene since December of 1995 so I
guess seven months about, to join razor you must do
something usefull, ie. supply, courier, etc.. Razor is
legend, the longest games group ever on the scene, Razor
commands respect. While groups die every few months,
              Razor lives on.

Defacto : So you have been in razor all your scene life?

      Pest : I started as a supplier for razor on January 1, 1996. I
supplied Razor's first game of 1996 (Dawn Patrol Head to
              Head)

Defacto : Hehehe, I remember that release! It was the first game in
1996! A good release Pest! What do you think about the
current situation on scene, with competition between
              games groups?

Pest : Well the competition is alot more intense, Prestige,
Razor, and Hybrid are all very strong releasers and
              provide good competition.

Defacto : What are the TOP 6 game release groups in your opinion.

This a question came to mind, What do their parents think/know about
warez. I spent several days taking a survey and came up with some
surprising results. Of those polled 70% said that their parents had
no clue of what they where doing or even what a warez. The majority
of the warez community is under 18, so therefore living at home with
their parents. Due to this a question came to mind, what do their
parents think/know about warez. I spent several days taking a survey
and came up with some surprising results. Of those polled 70% said
that thier parents had no clue of what they where doing or even what
a warez was. The remaining 30% mainly had parents who knew and did
not care or even participated in it with thier child. Some of the
responses that where in the minority (30%) included ...

"My parents are kewl about it, they know alot about the warez scene.
I have half of my family that loves to go out on the net and get new
    shit for their computers."

"My dad encourages it, he even taught me, he's been in the scene before
MOD, fuck he was phreaking when the mentor and Kevin Mitnick where
too young to hold a keyboard and my dad is in the army, and says that
the US Government doesn't care about warez, and that people like
Chris Carter who THINK they are doing the gov't a favor, when in
reality it doesn't matter to them."

There was only one response that was totally negative saying that the
parents know and hate it, that being a person who says he gets grounded
for not registering shareware and thats only because his parents are
    ignorant.

Personally my parents fall in the majority, they do not know, but if
they did they probably wouldn't care. I generally think that based
upon my survey that most parents don't give a fuck, and if you are
worried about your parents finding out. They probably won't
    care.

Hello everyone. My "Career" in the scene has lasted about 5-6 years
now, and I pride myself on doing an ok job to this point. But I feel I
must warn you all, there is an evil being out there that gives the
scene a bad name. A person that aquires high positions in groups and
bestows faith in the groups members, then at just the right time, it
plans her attack carefully, she thinks of every possible response to
negative questions, she befriends higher members as to save face when it
all goes down. Then, when the perfect time comes up, BOOM! She leaves the
group and takes half of her "friends" with her, and just when you think
she couldn't possibly do anything worse, she comes back for more,
stealing some of the groups best members for her own group. Is this the
work of a "Scene Sabatour?" Could this be an evil personality of a
respected scene member? Or could this be the work of a truely pathetic
individual who can't take pressure, who's moodiness alone could take a
group down if she is allowed a high position? Well I would have to circle
"D" for "All of the Above."

When I was a newcomer to the courier scene, I had made several friends
in other groups and quickly became familar with all of the tricks and
responsibilities that a courier must pocess to survive as a courier in
any decent group. After several weeks of practicing with Anonymous FTP
sites I decided to join a group that a friend of mine was in called
Motiv8. My friend asked me to talk to a senior in the group named
Wintrhwk, so I messaged her and after a few minutes of tallking to her she
got me in Motiv8 on a two week trial basis, during which I had to courier
to several Motiv8 sites to prove myself worthy of attaining a full
membership in the group. After a few days of being in the groups channel,
I could already see that Wintrhwk had a major attitude problem, she would
demand respect from all the members or they would be kicked in a second,
although I saw no dis-respect happening. She would push people around and
not even regard that she was just making herself look stupid. I never
said anything because after all she did me a favor by letting me in the
group and I was only a trial at this point, I thought to myself that
maybe she just had a few bad days, so I never said anything.

After I made it out of trial, she was still acting this way and several
members had left, including my friend who got me into the group. I was
asked by my friend to leave with him, but I decided to stay and courier
for Motiv8. Two weeks after that Wintrhwk was still acting in this mannor
and I was planning to leave soon, several members told me that she is
always like that and to just let it go. So, I did, meanwhile my best
friend was a VGA artist for the group and he didn't like Wintrhwks
attitude either. Several days passed and my friend couldn't take it
anymore, he had a meeting with the other three seniors of Motiv8 and
resolved that Wintrhwk was to be demoted to senior of releasing. She was
still senior, but did not handle anything dealing with recruiting or
reprimanding current members. My friend was satisfied at this and Motiv8
was revived at this, not having a snarling, PMS ridden, uptight Fuhrer
  constantly breathing own their neck.

Several days later Wintrhwk announced her resignation from Motiv8, her
reason for leaving was "I can't handle this group anymore, no one does
shit, I'm the only good courier in this group.." Her departure from the
group did not hurt it at all, in fact I believe it helped a lot. Soon
after, my friend was appointed as a senior and things went on from their.

Since then, I left Motiv8 for personal reasons, as did my friend and
several other members. I grew as a courier and started up with bigger
sites etc. I decided to join bigger groups, and as a result I joined
Malice and PWA. Wintrhwk went from Motiv8 to her own group called Masque,
then to Malice. At the time of my induction into Malice, Wintrhwk was in
high council in the group. I hoped her attitude may have improved a
little, but much to my dismay, it got worse in my opinion. Although much
like with Motiv8, I said nothing to her about her attitude, as I didn't
want to get kicked from Malice.

Much of the same things that happened with Motiv8, were still
happening with Malice. Wintrhwks attitude and Ego pushed many great
members out of Malice, before and after I came into Malice. A few months
after I came to Malice, Wintrhwk had announced her resignation from
Malice, her reason being "I am the only good courier in Malice, without
me and [undisclosed], Malice would have died a long time ago.. I am
quiting the scene.." This sounds very famillar doesn't it? It seems to me
that she has a major superiority complex and needs to get out of the
scene all together. After announcing she was leaving, several other
council left and several members left also. She said that her reason for
leaving was because everyone else wasn't respecting her and that she
couldn't handle it. Several days later Wintrhwk came in #malice and tried
to use every Malice member as a scapegoat for her reasons for leaving.
But i'm sure that most people who witnessed this agree that her attempt
to reconcile with the people she ditched for no apparent reason other
than her own idiocy, was pathetic to the furthest extent.

Several days later after her self-proclaimed departure from her
illustrious career in the scene, she had formed her own courier group and
began stealing the very couriers that "she could beat with a PPP account"
from Malice, and then as if that wasn't enough, she came into #malice and
began taunting the Malice council saying she stole half the Malice members
  for her own group.

This story is 100% true, and can be verified by a lot of people, the
reason why I wrote this is to warn everyone that is in a position where
Wintrhwk has authority in a group, might as well leave now, or get her
thrown out or demoted, she will destroy your group. She is not fit to be
in any position of authority, and any group that I am in, I will make
sure, to the furthest of my ability, that she has nothing to do with that
group, at least in an authoritive position. And I hope that yoou, the
reader, will learn Wintrhwks pattern and do the same.

As you all know The Internet is a vast network of networks of networks
around the world, and perhaps the Internet is getting to big for its own
good. In the beginning, the Internet was formed as a small military
network called ARPAnet. Its main purpose was to insure communication
between different US military posts. A basic TCP protocol was developed
and several mainframe networks were developed and placed across the USA.
In the late 1970's ARPAnet felt a need for growth, so it began stationing
networks aroound european countries and several large Super Computers in
Japan, Canada and Finland. This was their base of their network and it
all ran smoothly with only an occasional bug. Several years later a few
large corperations put their networks onto the ARPAnet to give them the
advantage of global communication for marketting, etc. After that, it
seems that everyone caught on and ARPAnet converted from its governmental
foundation, to a global network of computers now known as the internet.

Today, there are over ten million internet residents. It seems any big
city is just incomplete without local internet access. The internet has
grown at a faster rate than any of us ever imagined. Each year 3 Million
more computer users introduce themselves to the internet. When the
internets infrastructure was first built, engineers designed a 16 bit
addressing algorithm that consisted of four address container classes each
containg 3 entries. Each of the four Container Classes had a maximum
count of 256 enties, that makes approximately 16,777,216 IP masks which
can each contain 256 seperate IP entries, whick translates to 254
different user IP's (minus one IP for Nameserver, and one for Mail
Server). What this all means is if each ISP each held only one D Class IP,
which is 254 PPP IP's, we could have a total of 16,777,216 ISP's, give or
take a few. The original engineers never imagined that their 16 bit IP
algorithm would one day be maxed out. For the last 3 years, several
groups of engineers have been trying to develop a way to make room for
all the growth without having to screw to mush up.

One option that has been discussed is transitioning from 16 bit IP
addresses to 32 bit, so instead of four container classes, we would have
  8. This would mean replacing all current network cards with cards that
supported 32 bit IP's, rewriting all networking software (or at least
patching them to work with 32 bit IP's), completely redoing UNIX
structure for 32 bit IP's. As you can see this is a very drastic change
and would really throw things off. Another option is extending the now 16
bit IP to 24 bit, which would extend the 256 entries in each Container
Class to 512. This would be better than 32 bit IP's because the only
things that would need replacing are the network cards.

Whatever is chosen to help the situation better be done quick, we are
running out of IP's quick! In the near future IP's will be like crack,
they will sell them on street corners, they will trade them for sex.
Always remember to treat your IP well, like it was your best friend, you
never know when you'll lose it.

Welcome to another great new section of Defacto! This is a section
for Rumors to be passed around. Hell we know that everybody loves to
gossip. Lets alteast try to be organized about it. Now remember these
are only RUMORS. If you dont understand that word please go and look
it up. We will all have to wait and see if these turn out to be true.

  - Quake has been the big topic of of late with people going around
saying they have the PRE-RELEASE version. Some groups are rumoured to
be offering big gifts in trade for the release.
  - Tklp is staking his posistion on RoR Releasing Quake. You think they
    will do it?
  - Prestige says they will beat RoR to the Quake Final.
  - Speaking of Tklp, rumours say he is droping both MTY and RTS
  - All the old groups that have done comebacks in the last few months
    are apparently all dead now.
  - RCN has apparently found Chris Carter's address.
  - Fan Fan LaTilupe may return to the scene and supply for an unamed
    group.
  - Sodom, the growing russian util group almost called it quits last
    week.
  - Fate is looking for a European courier group to merge with
    to increase their european divison.
  - Fate attemped to get Angels of Death to merge into them but AOD
declined saying there would be no benifits for them in a merger.
  - Naplam is apparently making a coming after a dead month and
alot of restructuring. Though some would beg to differ.

Information on who you are and what you are doing right now?

Chemist: The Renegade Chemist, I am a member of Prestige, sort of an
organizer, part time supplier and really bad, bad cracker.

Defacto: Chemist can you tell us a little about how you first got
introduced into the scene and what got you started with Warez?

Chemist: Okay. Well when I started calling out, it was on a friend's
borrowed 1200 baud modem. I was calling out on my true-blue
           IBM 8086 PC with 568k and a pair of full-height 360k drives.
The case I think must have been made of titanium, anyway that
case would certainly survive a nuclear blast. The first boards
we called were the public domain porno boards, and when I saw
that I was like in wanker heaven. You must remember, I was
like 12 years old, and being able to snag pics of naked
chicks in compromising positions meant a lot to me - I would
no longer have to rifle my Dad's drawers and find his dirty
mags. After a while that got boring, I discovered a shitty
warez board and the rest was history .. For my birthday one
year I got a 2400 baud modem of my very own, and from there
I continued to trade on all the local WWIV boards. WWIV
was the popular software then, and Telegard was pretty popular
also. I remember the big board in 214 (Dallas area) at the time
was DUNE, Freddy Krueger's board. I was on his board but not
for very long. Even when I was totally lame, I had a bad
habit of telling people exactly what I thought, and Sysops
don't like it when you tell them they're wrong a lot, and
when you ask a lot of stupid questions. Then there was the fact
that DUNE was like the port of entry for all the wares into
Dallas, so I was never able to upload there, since I was just
a local lamer. Even though I had GREAT uploads on all the
local boards, just by shuttling stuff back and forth between
all of them, I still couldn't get onto DUNE. Back then all the
boards were 2400 baud. 9600 HST had just started, v.32 was
around shortly after that but HST was still faster. HST's were
really expensive, so I couldn't get one. I was just a kid.
Finally after months of trading on the local boards, I found a
local board that ran HST, had a few LD callers, and would let
me on. That was the first "real" board that I was on for an
extended period of time. The board was called Oblivion, the
Sysop named Agent Orange, and it ran a forum-hacked software
called Utopia. That was one of the first forum boards that I
called. Certainly there were other forum hacks at that time,
the most popular of which was Emulex/2, at least for a while.
Anyway, I digress. After a while the 214 scene seemed to get
better, but I still couldn't get on DUNE. So I started calling
LD with my 2400 baud modem, and was able to slowly pull files
in. Back in those days it was SOO easy to get codes .. I
remember using 950-1044,1033,1022 and a bunch of other codes
to get the wares into my AC. But even though I was calling
LD, DUNE was always faster and I still couldn't get on ..
Eventually I got onto DUNE, but by then I was so enmeshed in
the LD scene that it didn't matter. I got involved in several
small groups, the most successful of those being ICE (a really
lame INC rip off), but never accomplished a whole lot until a
           little later. Anyway .. when I turned 16 I got a car and didn't
do shit in the scene for a long time. After I totalled my car,
I had a lot more free time and I started to get back into it.

This is about the time when I started to get involved with
Razor 1911. When I was in junior high, I knew a guy named
Brian. Brian was a friend of a friend and we didn't get along
all that much, I was real lame and remember thinking he was
super 'leet because he was a big name in an Amiga group,
Razor 1911. Anyway, Brian moved to Virginia and I thought that
was the last I'd hear of him. I went about my business in
214, running my 2400 baud LSD board, The Crime Lab, getting
all the files really fast from my friends who ran boards
with HST's and Duals, and using my local courier group LEECH
(locals exchanging everything caught from HST's) to control 214's
2400 baud boards. There were a lot of them back then.
INC had the city in a stranglehold, they were dominating and
Cool Hand decided to keep the city dry of wares. Back then there
was no Internet, and all the boards in 214 relied on the big
INC boards (Midnite Oil I, II and III) to bring in the wares,
so if Cool Hand wanted 214 dry, it stayed that way.
Only a few of my friends had the balls to let me leech from
them at night and spread the wares across the city with my
courier group, LEECH. Eventually LEECH even had suppliers, we
formed a group called CWF (Consolidated Wares Force) and put
out some utils and games and stuff. Well, one day I was at a
friend's house, copying some new stuff and I saw a release from
none other than Razor 1911. I was immediately stunned and
surprised, and I checked out the nfo file, and discovered that
this was indeed the same Razor 1911 as my friend Brian had been
in before. In fact, Brian was still in it .. in case you
haven't figured it out yet, Brian was Zodact Stratux, the
leader of Razor 1911 in the US. Later he dropped the
Stratux, but anyway, it was Zodact. Back then you could find
phone numbers to boards in NFO files, and I called one of
their HQ's, Apocalypse, and left a message with my phone
number for Brian. Brian called me, we talked, he kind of made
fun of me and that was the end of that. But I was persistent..
I hooked up Razor with some of my friends so that they could
help him release, and Razor put out a few games from
a friend that worked at babbage's. But then out of the blue,
Razor 1911 shut down and some of the members joined INC.
They did it because Razor had gotten really big, and there were
a lot of people who claimed to be part of Razor, and in name
WERE part of Razor, but guys that didn't do shit but took
credit were ruining it for Zodact and the rest. I got ahold
of Brian and begged him to reconsider, and after a couple of
weeks the Razor crew left INC and that was when I became a
member. I had a lot of time on my hands and I was really
motivated. Zodact told me the ropes, I bought game magazines,
checked companies, did everything I could think of to find
out when games were coming out. We still got beat consistently
by USA/Fairlight and INC, but now I knew what they were going
to release when they put it out. Zodact had an account at
the fast software distributor at the time and ordered stuff
from there, but USA went one better - they arranged to have
people PICK UP at the distributor, so we weren't fast enough
most of the time, and even when we were, we could be certain
that USA, INC, THG and anyone else would have the game at
           the same time as us.

So it was a bitch. We lost on a lot of stuff, and we
duped on a lot of stuff, unknowingly, but a dupe's a dupe.
Razor's reputation started to sink, because we just couldn't get
enough games to compete, and a lot of the games we did get were
released by someone else first. To make matters worse, the
only money we had was the money we spent ourselves, and from a
few small dist sites. And on top of all that, Zodact was
losing interest in the scene, but that was probably a good
thing as it forced me to take more control of the group, and
to see how shit would be run. Anyway, in Jan/Feb of 1992,
the USA/Fairlight bust came (The NotSoHumbleBabe and
The Grim Reaper got busted for carding) and the scene like
totally shut down for a while. I still have a pretty
funny "TRC retires" letter from that time, actually.
I swore that I would not be involved in the scene anymore,
and it probably would have been better had I not gotten
involved - god knows the scene is a distraction from hell.
But I had just gotten a brand new 14.4k USR Dual for Christmas
via the Sysop deal, and I didn't want it to go to waste..
I knew that Star Trek : 25th Anniversary would be coming out
soon from Interplay, and I knew that I'd be able to get it, so
I did. I decided that would be the only game I'd ever get for
Razor. But once I got it, and won on it (even though I later
found out that uSA had released it also, and possibly even beat
me to it) I was hooked .. I started to keep better track of
the games coming out, and with Zodact gradually falling out of
it I found people who could work with me in the group.
Guys like The Witch King, who lived on the east coast, had
tax id's with which I could set up distributor accounts, and
had a credit card he'd give me so that I could call companies
and order stuff to him .. People like The Hawk and Butcher,
who helped the group immeasurably.. Anyway after that one
release, I was hooked and the group started to grow.

We were in close competition with INC for a long, long
time .. then towards the end of may '92 INC pretty much went
belly up and our main competitor emerged as FLT PC, headed
by The Grim Reaper. Grimmy came back from being busted with
The NotSoHumbleBabe's much-vaunted supply list, and really
put out a LOT of shit while I was in Germany for 6 weeks.
Some of my favorite releases from back then included Links
386 Pro, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe : P-160 Expansion,
and a few others. All of them had significance for me ..
Luftwaffe was the first time my group beat INC in a race,
and Links 386 was the biggest game I had put out up until then ..
Anyway late '92 I found Randall Flagg. He was cracking for an
Italian group, Dead Memory, and when I saw him do a crack for a
LucasArts game I knew I had to have him. By now I had kind of
figured out how to run a group, and formed my initial
philosophy .. Cracking is most important, respectable boards
are 2nd in importance, and supply is 3rd most important.
Razor 1911 thrived for a long time under my leadership, but
it was always because of our core .. we had the strongest,
most dominant cracking core out of ANY group for at least 2
straight years. And for a lot of that time we had incredible
spreading, headed by guys like Razor Blade, Hoppermania
(before he turned into a cardwhore), and DEViL ..

I moved to Austin in late '92, and from '92-'94 we totally
rocked. During this time members like Marauder, Excessive Knight,
Butcher, and others made their mark on the group. In fact most
of those guys joined in late '92 / early '93 and were in for
the duration. Then in '93 sometime, an upstart courier with a
bad attitude named Lord Thinker quit the group and started
PE along with some older guys, like The Hawk. They were tough
for a while because they were picking up at the same distributor
where USA had picked up before, and I still wasn't able to get
a reliable pickup contact out there. '93 was probably the most
fun I had in Razor, that was when we warred with groups like PE,
Pentagram, TDT, and others. It was a good time.

In '94 the conflict was mostly between us and PTG, then I
lost my phone line, and in my absence the Legend split occurred,
where a bunch of Razor members, headed by Butcher and Westbam,
formed a new group with former TRSI (and current Prestige)
members Tazman, Troops, Troll and others. When I came back to
the scene in August of '94, I got in touch with what was left of
the group (which wasn't much), Lord Thinker and I became friends,
and Razor was re-born with Zeus leading the way as the king of
           supply.

Defacto: Chemist, can you tell us some of your SPEFIC reasons for
deciding to Leave Razor in 1995?

Chemist: I didn't leave Razor until 1996, and depending on who you
talked to I may even have been kicked out. Ultimately, it
doesn't really matter because if I hadn't quit I would have
been kicked out. In October of '95, I realized that Razor was
pretty close to its peak (which we hit in November of '95).
The floppy scene was dying out, I would be working full time and
going to school full time starting in Spring, Zeus would be in
school in Spring, Lord Thinker in school in Spring, you get the
picture. Zeus, Lord Thinker, myself, Marauder, and
Randall Flagg agreed that the best thing to do would be to
shut the group down at the end of January '95. Anyway, the 5 of
us agreed that since we were in charge of the situation, we'd
shut her down at the beginning of '95. Our WHQ of old, Mirage,
had already gone down, and there weren't too many of us
old-timers left. Zeus and I were good friends even then,
but the fun would only last so long with the companies going CD
only (at that time we didn't foresee the advent of the CD scene
as it is today) .. Anyway, one day I saw a few releases from
Nexus, The GEcko's old group. NXS wasn't doing a whole lot,
and I figured the titles that GEcko could get now and then
would add to the pile for us, and by themselves wouldn't do
much for NXS so I asked him to join. We chatted on the
Razor WHQ, TAG, for 5 minutes and then he offered to join,
bringing pay sites and a UK supplier, Hot Tuna, with him, as
well as a great cracker named Beowulf. I said great, but
that I didn't want SPeed Racer in the group, as I thought he
was just GEcko's store pickup lackey, and even then I'd seen
him fuck up almost every release that came his way. Quite
honestly, I thought that TSR was a total idiot, and I didn't
want dead weight in the group. But GEcko insisted, so I said
cool, he can come in. When GEcko joined, he agreed that the
group would be shut down in early '95, as he would not have
time for it anymore then either. Eos joined shortly afterward,
and he agreed to the shutdown as well. My mistake at the time
was not talking to TSR. GEcko didn't make it clear to me that
he and TSR were a team, and that TSR made a lot of decisions
in NXS. If I had talked to TSR then, he would have had to
swear to the shutdown as well, but since I didn't, I guess he
didn't feel beholden to it. Well, we kicked ass until December,
when someone turned in Zeus. Zeus stopped supplying, and in
January, when we were supposed to be shutting down, TSR
started putting out budget releases and talking about the
resurgence of Razor in the nfo files. He also started
calling dist sites, telling them to send him money, and even
increased their monthly contribution .. To make a long story
short, I went apeshit. The prime reason that we had decided
to disband at the END of January, and not at the beginning,
is because some of our paysites had paid through the end of
Jan. and we didn't want to fuck them over. When TSR started
asking for more money, it was apparent that he was trying to
pull a fast one - or so I thought. It looked like he was
trying to get cash out of these guys and bail. Well, to make a
long story short, Eos/Gecko didn't keep their word, TSR did
some shifty underhanded shit, and when I got back from Mardi
Gras in February my account on TAG was gone. I got it back,
quit the group, and all the old timers left with me. That was
when Razor 1911 ceased to be what it once was. If you
look in the nfo now, theres not one person that was in there
before, except Sector9, but he's just in there because he
wants to be in a group that's been around 10 years. S9 was one
of the original founders, but didn't do anything for the last
1 1/2 years that I was in the group.

And as far as being sad about leaving the group. Yeah, at
first I was disappointed about it, and pretty angry, but
eventually I got used to it. You see, the whole reason I
wanted to shut down Razor was because I didn't want it to
           turn lame.
                                        To Be Continued.. .. .

A Dummies Guild To "Telephone Scanning / System Hacking Basics"

Well I think i've settled down with a how to section. =] If you ever
need to contact me about more help with my topics, e-mail me at
Doomsday@ix.netcom.com. All comments, flames, etc will be answered as soon
 as i have the time.

Ok before you even jump into hacking a system, or even connect to one
you need a # to connect to. (Sorry there is no IP Address scanning.) The only
way to find #s that are carriers is by dialing up each # manually and
listening for a connect noise. Fortunately, people wrote programs to make the
computer do all of that plus much much more. Programs like Blue Beep and Tone
Loc are the best that i've found. I reccommend Tone Loc for scanning, it has
full logs, carrier logs, and mapping of a prefix, etc. Blue Beep is more of a
all around phreaking program than Tone Loc.

First of all, you need to figure out what #s you are going to scan.
There are 10,000 numbers in a prefix, from say 818-705-XXXX. A prefix is the
3 numbers after the area code. To scan a whole prefix it usually takes 3
days non-stop or about 7 days if you do it part time. I reccommend either
getting a dedicated computer with a shitty modem, or scan while you sleep.
I can't really go into detail about how to run or setup the program, READ THE
DOCS is all i can say. Once everyday or a couple of hours you should check
your connect.log or whatever you saved it to and see if you hit the jackpot.
When the program connects, it trys a series of characters or comamnds to
 make the log more informative.

After you found carriers, logon to them and try to figure out what
they are. Usually people are interested with System 75s and System 85s
so you can make PBXs. PBXs are used by companies so their employees can
bill to one statement. They are used by people like us to make free phone
calls (=]). Why are PBXs the only ones people want? They don't have ANI
like 950s now have (a popular way of phreaking many years ago). And now,
cellular hacking is the big thing.

But anyways, after you find out what logon it is, by checking local
hack BBSes, the web, alt.2600, or irc, i get the defaults for the system
first. Defaults are the passwords that the OS comes built in when you install
it. Nowadays I don't think the defaults still work but there are always
retarded sysadministrators that forget to change the default passwords. If
the defaults don't work you are going to get a program like crackerjack and
crack them yourself. Thats a bit involved to teach, so I won't go into it for
 now.

Ok, you've made it onto a system. You are here, hopefully with a
system admin's account. Enjoy fooling around with systems, maybe if you're
lucky you cracked into a bank or the DMV. (Yea right!)

P.S. Some places have made scanning illegal! Even though you are calling a

-Rating scale:
                 (0-19)/100 = In a nutshell, it sucked!
(20-39)/100 = Still crap but slightly better.
                (40-49)/100 = Possibly worth downloading.
(50-69)/100 = Pretty decent game. Might want to check it out.
(70-79)/100 = Worth the download if you like that type.
(80-89)/100 = Very good, 9 outta 10 its worth the download.
                (90-99)/100 = Excellent game, a MUST download.
100/100 = HOLY SHIT I'VE NEVER SEEN A BETTER GAME!

RATINGS are based on the game idea, graphics, sound, playability, ingenuity,
versatility, and a lot of other words ending in `ity'. These games are based
on what happens on MY COMPUTER ONLY, unless stated otherwise. I always first
follow nfo directions, and if those don't work or are not available, I then
try other ways. So just b/c it doesn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't
work for you.

Back to Baghdad (c) Military Sim. 23/23
This game was the biggest bitch ever to install, not because it was complic-
ated or anything, but because it took fucking forever. First you unarj it,
and there's about 1000 small .bmp files which make the arj take like around
15 minutes, then you have to edit the .cfg and .bat files, and the bat files
have like a million lines referring to the dir. Then you go to load the game
up, and it takes about 10 minutes for it to load the terrain and stuff. And
after that it just continues to swirl my hd around in circles as it loads
and loads. It just kept loading, I went and took a shower, a nap, dinner,
etc, while it was loading. Then I came back to find it had stopped loading
but had locked up. I was able to see the game <just not play it> from one
of the points of loading up. My rating on this game is just a total guess
since I was not able to play it. If you even plan to take a shot at this,
I'd HIGHLY suggest you have at least a pent/133, or you'll wait forever.

This is the "win32 version" 0o0o. It's still the same fly the airplane thr-
ough the house, avoid some obstacles, and blah blah, as it was before. You
just have to guide the airplane through the house and manuever it without
hitting any book shelves, other airplanes, bouncing balls, etc. There are
air currents which keep your plane up <or down> and you need to fly from one
to the other. Not too amusing, in fact quite boring.

Ummm this one won't load without the cd. Subst <as told to do> won't work,
and fakecd won't work. It just doesn't work. Also, I found this kinda weird
that there was an .html for a page in this release, and that it said this:
<A HREF="http://www.primussucks.com/">. Now if you ask me, I wouldn't think
it's such great idea for you to put a link to something that says your game
sucks in the package with your game. Also, a 50 something disk movie pack
was released for this nonworking game.

<Sung to the CAR 54 theme song>:
        There's a 41 disk release, but I'm missing a small piece.
There's a beta just a waitin', for me to do the testin'.
I downloaded 40 disks and realized there's one I missed....
        DISK 24 WHERE ARE YOU!?!?.
But then after searching far and wide, <actually it took about 2 mins> I was
able to find the missing disk 24. After I spanked #24, I unzipped it and
well, here's the review: This is the beta version of this MK like game. The
previous release was just a playable preview. This one still is a little
buggy, but Demolition released a patch to fix some things. It's got a lot
of cool things, and the graphics are good. But the movement of the characters
just has something about it that makes you just not like it. Also you'll
need a pent/100+ to play this at a decent speed. Pray for Death isn't going
to be the next great fighting game, but it might entertain a select few.
If you do make the effort to get it, might as well get the patch to, it lets
you play certain modes, and also let's you see the character's stats and
stuff, even though there is no animation of them.

REVOLUTiON X RELEASE -13th June 1996-
Ummm, it says "it can be played over ten", but it does not say it has to be
played over it. Well that seems the only way to work this thing. There is
no `non-modem' way of using it. It only gives one .exe, and it tries to
connect to someplace and there is no way to edit what it connects to.

Look out! PMS at it's peak! It's Mortal Kombat style fighting, but this
time, the woman outnumber the men 10-0. It's a very good game, if you got
the power to back it up. First off, don't even try to run it in win3.1,
unless you got a p/166 and a shitload of ram. Because if you do, you'll be
playing it in a window about the size of your pinky nail. Ok music and sound
effects, but much better graphics. You have a nice choice of women with great
bods to show off <especially the bottom right one>. There are 6 move you
have, each character with it's own moves. It's worth getting if you have a
really fast computer, otherwise don't bother. Perfect gift for father's day!

your chased by cavity type things, and the boards are a little weirder and
harder. This is SW, but I think it includes all the levels.

Here is the dos version of this acclaimed flight simulator. (It was acclaimed
as being a flight sim <G>). Welp once again, another one of those sim games
with no docs, no key setup, and no way of getting the fucking plane off the
ground. I slammed every key, I slammer every fucking possible combinations
of keys, and the fucking plane didn't move an inch. Sure, I can view it from
fifty thousand angles, but I can't make it move! Anyway, it looked like a
pretty basic and plain simulator. The usual bland colors of line'ish gfx.
Not too great, some docs would be helpfull.

This is a terribly designed platform game. Although they claim this is the
