To install Flight Simulator 5.0

Copy the contents of the DISK1 and DISK2 directories to floppies and
run setup.exe from disk 1. Make sure that you copy the files to the
root directory of the floopy (i.e. DON'T make an A:\DISK1 directory...)

--> Make sure you have at least 530k free conventional ram + 1 meg extended.

New Features in Flight Simulator 5.0:

Texture-Mapped Scenery:
This new technology allows us to have photorealistic scenery. Currently
the only scenery like this is at Meigs Field. You need to have 1 Meg of
Expanded or Extended memory in order to see this. If you don't have Expanded
or Extended memory then you won't see any scenery when you boot the program.
To fix this go into the Scenery menu and choose 'Scenery Library. You can
choose the old FS 4.0 scenery database (it's currently called "F1" on the
scenery menu).

If you do have Expanded or Extended memory configured and you get the
photorealistic Meigs Field check out the new map view. Zoom out to see
the Earth! Also, set a cloud layer from World/Weather menu.

Synthesized Scenery:
Load the "Synth-Berg" situation to view Flight Simulator's new Synthesized
Scenery technology. We hope to add this scenery across the US so you will
have something to look at during those long cross-country flights. Right
now Synth-Berg is the only place to find Synthesized Scenery.

VOR and NDB's:
We have 'em all. You can use your favorite sectional and fly navigate in
the US. You will only find airports in Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles,
San Francisco and New York (+2 European cities soon to be added) but all
VOR's and NDB's in the U.S. should be at their actual locations.

Land Me:
This feature guides your plane to safely to the runway. Currently the
only airport where this works is Meigs Field in Chicago. To try this
feature take off from Meigs Field, turn right and choose 'Land Me' from
the 'Options' menu. (This version does not lower the gear, but we'll
fix that).

New Graphics modes:
Flight Simulator uses 320x400x256 colors and 640x400x256 colors. I would
like your feedback on how intuitive it is to pick your graphics modes
during setup. For the 640x400 mode we needed to write video drivers for
all the different video cards. We chose to write drivers for specific
SVGA "chipsets". This means that you must know what chipset your card
is based upon. We were unable to add descriptive names to the menu such
as "Orchid ProDesigner", instead you must choose "ET-4000". We are hoping
this does not cause too much confusion. Please let us know if you found
selecting your video card difficult.

Shaded planes:
Hit the 'S' key twice to get to spot view (track view has been removed).
You will notice the new plane has shaded surfaces. Hold down the shift
key and press the arrow keys on your numeric keypad to change your view.

Time of Day effects:
Go into the Sim menu and choose Simulation Speed. Change this value to
128 (this increases time by a multiple of 128. Next, go into the World
menu and choose 'Set Time and Season. Set the time of day to 'Dawn'.
You should see the sunrise.

You will also notice ground shadows (use Options/Preferences/Display to
enable shadows). These change as the Sun moves with time.

Lat/Long coordinate system:
Flight Simulator 5.0's coordinate system has been redesigned to use
Lat/Long. I would be interested to learn how well the FS 4.0 .SCN
scenery files from Mallard and Sublogic work. Do they line up properly?
The colors may be tweaked because of the new color palette. Aircraft
and Scenery Designer scenery files will not work until we can update
A&SD to work with FS 5.0.

There are more...
There are too many other new features to list so please spend some
time browsing through the menus (check out the autopilot, crash graphics,
night effects, headlight, weather areas...)
